Welcome to DiscoTech
I have finally decided to enter the wonderful world of blogging. So welcome to DiscoTech, a blog dedicated to all things music. From the production and performance of benefit concerts to the study of music as a social indicator, I want to promote the use of music as a community resource and an educational tool. For the last 10-15 years, as an educator, I have been compiling extensive research archives on topics as diverse as race and gender issues in popular music, copyright law and peer-to-peer file sharing, music and emotion, the effects of globalization on the music industry, protest music, and post-9/11 culture wars, all the while trying to maintain an activist role as a cultural worker and a performing musician.
The plan is to use this blog publish in-process commentary on my current research and community projects, and, over time, to make available the archives of web-based resources I have developed for my courses on the Social History of Popular Music, Music and Politics, and Media Literacy. Hopefully this will be a labor of love and a useful exercise, rather than one more mundane data-entry task. Your active involvement and comments will make it more likely to become the former.
