The Good Trouble Brass Band began its existence as the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, an activist New Orleans-style street band that formed at an anti-Iraq War protest in 2003. The band continues its activist mission to this day and serves as the host band for Somerville's HONK! Festival of Activist Street Bands. The band changed its name in 2023 to honor the exhortation of the late civil rights icon and congressional representative John Lewis, who once said: “When you see something that’s not right, not fair, not just, say something, do something, get in trouble, GOOD TROUBLE.” I play snare drum in the band and I am also a member of the HONK! Organizing Committee.
